Ecodek's 2022 Year in Review
2022 has been a busy, yet successful year for Ecodek. Coming out of COVID has been a challenge, but our dedicated team has worked hard to ensure Ecodek has emerged stronger than ever. As we come to the end of the year, we thought we would look back at some of our proudest achievements:
Wrexham Foodbank Collection Day
Back in January we hosted a Wrexham Foodbank Collection Day at our headquarters in the city. Part of the Trussell Trust’s network of 428 foodbanks across the UK, Wrexham Foodbank provides vital support to those in the community who are struggling financially. Everyday people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill whilst on a low wage. A simple box of food can make all the difference, helping to prevent crime, family breakdowns and mental health issues.
We’re proud to say that our local community and businesses, including Kellogg’s which is based on the same industrial estate as Ecodek, came out in force to support this cause, donating food and toiletries to the foodbank. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who donated and helped to make a real difference.
Garden Transformation Challenge 2022
This year saw the launch of our inaugural Garden Transformation Challenge, where we asked people to write in and explain why they deserved to win one of our Composite Decking Kits. Melanie Jones won the hearts of our judging panel and received a decking kit to help transform her garden.
Melanie moved into her home in 2021 and her and her husband had lovingly renovated their dream family home for their son who has autism. This renovation left little funds to transform their garden, which is why Melanie entered our garden challenge. Using our Composite Decking Kit Melanie and her family transformed their garden from a square of grass into a haven for all of them to enjoy.
We hope to repeat our Garden Transformation Challenge in 2023 so keep an eye on our blog and social media channels for further details.
Launch of our Essentials range
Here at Ecodek, we want everyone to be able to enjoy the benefits of composite decking, regardless of their budget, which is why we launched our new sustainably sourced Essentials range of composite decking.
With its unique scalloped construction Essentials is a lightweight yet strong and durable decking board, and the need for less material in the manufacturing process has resulted in an affordable, but still high quality, composite decking range.
We’re extremely proud of this latest addition to our range and you can see the many benefits of the Essentials composite decking board yourself by requesting a free sample before you buy.
Champions of sustainability
Since our inception, sustainability has been at the heart of everything we do, from the materials we use to create our products to the processes we use to manufacture them.
Ecodek boards are manufactured using a wood polymer composite (WPC), which means they are made from a 95% blend of sustainably sourced wood flour and recycled HDPE polymer. All the wood used by us is Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) certified, which means it is sustainable and traceable from source. Finally, our finished product is 100 percent recyclable.
When it comes to manufacturing our wood composite boards, we are proud to say that we have achieved carbon negative status, which although is a bold claim, has been verified by the BioComposites Centre of Bangor University.
Going forward into 2023, sustainability will continue to be at the core of everything we do, and we look forward to sharing our new initiatives and achievements throughout next year.
