At Ecodek, we have been manufacturing wood polymer composite decking and furniture since 2004, and therefore have a wealth of knowledge and expertise in-house to help meet your needs and answer any questions you may have around the subject of composite decking. As we receive similar questions on a frequent basis, we thought that we would do round up of the top questions we get asked the most to help you understand what composite decking is, how to install it and where to get it.
What Is Ecodek Composite Decking?
Ecodek composite decking is a wood polymer composite, which means that it is a blend of recycled wood and recycled plastic. The composition of Ecodek decking is approximately 55% hardwood fibres and 45% high-density polyethylene otherwise known as recycled plastic milk bottles. Other ingredients include a high-quality colour pigmentation system, a wetting/bonding agent and a high-tech ultraviolet light inhibitor package.
How Do I Install Ecodek Composite Decking?
This question crops up a lot, which is why we have put together a short installation video to guide you through installing your decking correctly. Please pay special attention to the gaps, spaces and tolerances indicated within this guide, as this will keep your deck in top condition and therefore perform for years to come.
Are Ecodek Boards Solid & Why Are Solid Composite Decking Boards Better?
Although hollow deck boards are cheaper to buy in the short term, they are simply not as durable as they comprise of far less material. This means that you might have to replace your decking sooner than expected, meaning hollow decking is not as cost effective in the long term. All Ecodek boards are solid and come with a minimum 25 year guarantee for residential installations.
Is Composite Decking Slippery?
As with the majority of flooring products, Ecodek composite decking will lose some slip resistance when wet, but still has one of the highest ratings for ‘low potential for slip’ requirement as set by the Health and Safety Executive. We also offer anti-slip inserts within our range to provide extra grip. For further information on our slip test results and anti-slip options, please visit our Technical Hub.
Does Composite Decking Fade?
Ecodek is made from hardwood fibres in order to minimise UV fading. There will still be some fade visible over the first few months giving a more textured appearance, which is a standard process with any composite decking called weathering. Any initial colour difference between boards is due to the natural colour variance in the wood fibres and once weathered, the boards will all be a similar colour tone.
The most fade resistant colours are Slate Grey, Dark Brown & Black. Colour variation can occur from batch to batch, so we advise ordering boards for your project in one delivery if there is a large area on display.
