Does composite decking fade over time?

When considering the type of deck you want to put down in your outdoor space, it is important that you bear in mind how the deck will look after it has been laid for a few months.

Composite decking is made from hardwood fibers in order to minimise natural UV fading. There will be some fade visible over the first few months giving a more textured appearance and this is a standard process called weathering.

Any initial colour difference between boards is due to the natural colour variance in the wood fibers and once weathered, the decking boards will all be a similar colour tone.

Which decking colour is least likely to fade?

The most fade resistant decking colours in our Ecodek composite decking range are Slate Grey, Dark Brown and Black.

It is important to remember that colour variations can occur from batch to batch, so we therefore advise ordering boards for your project in one delivery if there is a large area on display. We would also recommend that you order a few extra boards just to account for any damages that may occur whilst installing.

Do you offer a composite decking range that will not fade?

Capped composite decking is a decking board that comes with a complete cover, designed to protect the decking board, that is bonded to the core during manufacturing. Both our Peaks & Parks ranges have three-sided capping which allows for both the multi-tonal wood effect colour and enhanced grain depth to be achieved, whilst preventing staining and fading.
